The Cosmic Birth | Revelation 12:1-11
When we think of Christmas, we often picture silent nights, peaceful mangers, and gentle shepherds. But Revelation 12 pulls back the curtain to reveal a startling truth: while Mary cradled her newborn in Bethlehem, a cosmic war raged in the heavens. This passage shows us a great red dragon—Satan himself—poised to devour the Christ child the moment he was born. The woman clothed with the sun represents Israel, crying out in the agony of labor, while the male child destined to rule the nations is none other than Jesus. What strikes us most is God's strategy: He sent a baby to defeat the most dangerous opponent in history. To human eyes, it seems foolish, but this is the brilliance of divine sovereignty. The baby in the manger grew up to slay the dragon, defeating sin, death, and Satan on the cross. This cosmic perspective transforms how we understand Christmas—it wasn't just a gentle night, but an invasion into enemy territory. For us today, this means our victory is already assured. We don't have to fear Satan, sin, or death anymore. The accuser has been silenced by the blood of the Lamb. The question becomes: are we on the right side of this cosmic conflict? We're invited to step out of the dragon's shadow and into the Son's light, surrendering to the King who has already won our battle.
