The Son of Man | Daniel 7

Daniel chapter 7 takes us on a breathtaking journey through apocalyptic visions that reveal both terrifying earthly powers and the ultimate triumph of God's eternal kingdom. We encounter four beasts rising from the sea—a lion with eagle's wings representing Babylon, a lopsided bear symbolizing the Medo-Persian Empire, a swift leopard with four heads depicting Greece under Alexander the Great, and a fourth beast so terrifying that human language struggles to describe it. This final beast, representing Rome and something beyond it, introduces us to a small horn with eyes and a mouth—the Antichrist figure who will wage war against God's people. Yet the vision doesn't end in despair. We witness the Ancient of Days taking His throne, surrounded by millions of heavenly beings, as the Son of Man comes on the clouds to receive an everlasting kingdom. This powerful contrast reminds us that no matter how frightening earthly powers may seem, God is never the underdog. The beasts that appear invincible are ultimately destroyed, and the kingdom is given to the saints of the Most High. For us living between Christ's first and second coming, this vision offers profound encouragement: the culture may oppose us, evil may seem to prevail temporarily, but a better day is coming when we will rule and reign alongside our Savior King in a new heaven and new earth, free from sin, tears, and corruption forever.
