Gifts of God
This exploration of 1 Corinthians 12 challenges us to reconsider what spiritual gifts are truly meant for. We're reminded that spiritual gifts aren't trophies to display or tools for building our own reputation, but rather they're wrapping paper for the ultimate gift: Jesus Christ himself. The Corinthian church was dividing over who had the flashier, more impressive gifts, elevating those with public, miraculous abilities while dismissing those with behind-the-scenes service gifts. Sound familiar? We face the same temptation today. The text calls us back to a revolutionary truth: our gifts are given by the Holy Spirit not for our benefit, but for the common good of the church. Whether we have the gift of administration, teaching, mercy, or hospitality, each gift matters equally because each builds up the body of Christ. The question isn't whether we have spectacular gifts, but whether we're using whatever gifts we've been given consistently and sacrificially to point others to Jesus. Before we can ever exercise spiritual gifts effectively, we must first answer the foundational question: Do we truly love Jesus? Can we honestly say Jesus is Lord? Because no amount of gifting matters if we haven't first received the gift of salvation through Christ.
