The Word of God Part 5

The Word of God Part 5

THE WORD OF GOD GIVES DIRECTION

Creation is the Unique Work of God’s Word:

A study of the creation account causes us to pause at the use of the Hebrew word, “bara”  – to create. This word is
unique in that its only subject in scripture is God.  Vines says… “bara.. is of profound theological significance, since it has only God as its subject. Only God can “create” in the sense implied by bara. The verb expresses creation out of nothing,.”    We may call ourselves creative, but we cannot do what this word describes. Only God can create out of nothing.

Word of God is the Only Basis for Faith

Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

The Word and the Light and the only begotten are One
John 1:1-5
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. 5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
John 1:14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 8: 12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.

The Word of God Protects

Ephesians 6:12-13 For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens. 13 This is why you must take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand…Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is God’s word.

The Word of God Gives Direction
God has always given direction and instruction to His people

Genesis1:28-30
God said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it. Rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, and every creature that crawls on the earth.” God also said, “Look, I have given you every seed-bearing plant on the surface of the entire earth and every tree whose fruit contains seed. This food will be for you, for all the wildlife of the earth, for every bird of the sky, and for every creature that crawls on the earth — everything having the breath of life in it. I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.

Right after God created man and woman He began to give them direction and Instruction. He began to visit them and converse with them, this was the norm.

Genesis 2:16-17
And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree of the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for on the day you eat from it, you will certainly die.

Genesis 3:8-9
Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden at the time of the evening breeze, and they hid themselves from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. So the Lord God called out to the man and said to him, “Where are you?”

Genesis 2:7
Then the Lord God formed the man out of the dust from the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being.
Man was created Body – from the dust of the ground
Man was created Spirit – from the very breath of God
Man was created with a Soul. Mind – emotions – volition

Genesis 3:17
And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree of the garden, 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for on the day you eat from it, you will certainly die.

Genesis 3:23-24
So the Lord God sent him away from the garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was taken. 24 He drove man out and stationed the cherubim and the flaming, whirling sword east of the garden of Eden to guard the way to the tree of life.

Luke 5:1
As the crowd was pressing in on Jesus to hear God’s word…

II Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

-Memorize and read Scripture
-Be diligent in Prayer
-Recognize that God will answer in at least one of three ways consistent with Scripture.
1.     Directly speaking to us
2.     Speaking through His written and revealed Word
3.     Speaking though a spiritual friend or leader
